What Lies Beneath (small soundworks for the sleepy)
–a collaboration between Lucas Ihlein and Media Arts staff and students at the University of Wollongong. In What Lies Beneath, the industrial din which props up Sydney is recuperated through small soundworks.
During 2011, Media Arts students at the University of Wollongong made field recordings of local steel manufacturing and computer dismantling industries.
The students then synthesised, processed and edited these unlistenable sonic vibrations to produce subtle (and occasionally beautiful) “wake-up soundtracks” specially designed to structure the transition from sleep to wakefulness.
